Isabel will be signing at the Latin book Fair in Los Angeles this coming Saturday!
A branch of the Guadalajara Book Fair, it is the largest in the world for books in Spanish. There are so many Spanish speaking people in the U.S. that it makes sense to have this book fair in Los Angeles. There is one every year in Miami, which is very well attended, and now there is one on the West Coast. If you are in Los Angeles, please come!

The University of Guadalajara and by the Guadalajara International Book Fair (FIL) is set to launch one of the most ambitious events ever held to promote Spanish: LéaLA, the first Spanish-language book fair in California. This three-day event seeks to encourage reading and promote Spanish-language books and English-language books written by U.S. Latino authors.

ReplyDeleteMi País Inventado, fue el primer libro que leí en mi autoexilio, lloré todas y cada una de las páginas, luego me comí uno a uno el resto de sus libros, ella es una mujer que desnuda su alma y sin mayor pudor ni sosiego lanza al viento ese torrente que fluye cuando excribe. llevo años buscándola, esperándola cuando venga a Chicago, no he tenido suerte. Un amigo me consiguió un autógrafo ahora que ella estuvo en la feria del libro en California. Me lo mandará por correo. Le dije a mi amigo: dígale que Ilka la ama. Y la amo, no la aprecio y ni la estimo, la amo, de la misma forma en que amo a Mercedes Sosa y a Mario Benedetti. Amo ese ser interior, su forma de ver la vida, de contarla, de enfrentarla, de liberar el lastre por medio de esa catarsis escrita. Ya tengo su autógrafo, sé que El Universo Confabulará para que un día no muy lejano pueda conocerla personalmente, tal vez me desmaye al verla, o me de por llorar como sucedio con el autógrafo. Pero de conocerla tengo. Dígale que somos miles quienes agradecemos sus letras, porque con ellas nos ayuda a crecer y a aceptar el día a día. Ilka desde Chicago.
